Sibel Toygun came to London from South Eastern Turkey in January 1991 at the age of nine, after her father experienced persecution at the hands of the Turkish police. She currently works as a financial advisor.
I feel a Londoner; yes I do [laughs] totally. Every time I go back home which is not very often, if I do, I feel, I don't fit in back--, back home, I feel like this is my home. Whereas my father and my mum looks at it very different whereas, you know we open, we always say in Turkish as well we opened our eyes here. We feel like this is our house-- we went through our education life, this is where we made friends, even in the Turkish and English community, same, yeah, so we went through everything here.
Yes so--, most of the education stage and everything that's why and plus with the community and stuff like that, I see much more of myself as a British than actually Turkish because we just, we've, we've made our lives intertwined as we go into a normal English person would but we have a--, we've given a bit more culture, into it and I think we're lucky in that sense, because it's a mixture and--, and I think it's really good as well so. But I do feel like a Londoner than actually someone in Turkey.
