Lesson 3: People on the move

NC subject links: Citizenship, Geography, History, English

The aim of this lesson is for pupils to have a better understanding of, and empathy with, the reasons why refugees are forced to flee their home countries.  As a starter activity, pupils will locate different countries, which have some link to themselves, on a world map.  This will lead to revision of the definitions learned so far, and an introduction to the definitions of an IDP and an economic migrant.

Pupils will then use the stories of individual refugees in order to record their countries of origin on a world map.  Pupils will find out more about one particular country which will lead to further research about the factors which have led people to flee other countries.
