The aim of this lesson is to introduce pupils to the topic of refugees in a lively way in order to gain their attention and capture their imagination. After using the TV programme 'I'm a celebrity' as a starter activity, pupils will work in groups to plan a new show with even more extreme ordeals.
This will lead to an introduction to the stories of some individual refugees and a summary of the reasons which led them to flee their home countries. Pupils will learn the definition of a 'refugee' and the difference between a refugee and an asylum seeker.
