

Asmeret Tesfazghi was born in Eritrea in 1979. She came to the UK in 1989 with her mother and siblings, escaping the Eritrean war of independence. In 2005 Asmeret won the GMTV Carer of the Year Pride of Britain Award for her work fostering vulnerable teenagers. Asmeret and Letina, her mother, live in South London.
Yes I was nominated to the GMTV Carer of the Year Award and I did end up winning it you know being voted by viewers, it is the Pride of Britain, so I got the Pride of Britain Award for Carer of the Year ..It was a very, very nice experience and it was an experience to remember for life.
You know you don't have a lot of opportunities to have experience like this. You know it is nice to be recognised at the same time. I didn't think that I would, I didn't start fostering to get an award and you know I am not going to stop it because I have been recognised. But it is very nice.
