About
Project Partners
The Evelyn Oldfield Unit co-ordinates the Refugee Communities History Project and works closely with a number of other organisations:
- There are fifteen refugee community groups involved in the project. Each has a fieldworker, employed by the Evelyn Oldfield Unit, but based in the offices of each community group. The communities help select interview candidates and assist the fieldworkers in their work. Each group will be running (or has already held) an exhibition on their interviewees' experiences.
- London Metropolitan University provides training for the community fieldworkers in the theory and practise of oral history as part of a post graduate course.
- The Museum of London is archiving all of the 150+ interviews collected by the project plus photos and other memorabilia. The museum is producing a major exhibition on refugees, based on this project, to be open to the public in autumn 2006. Also, the museum trains the community fieldworkers to document and archive the oral history through placements at the museum.
- The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the City Parochial Foundation, through the Trust for London.
